Countless women worldwide are opting for cosmetic surgery to fix or tweak minor or major imperfections. Most procedures are done to enhance a person’s image towards an aesthetic ideal. They want to look and feel beautiful. However, some women become addicted to fixing every little blemish they may find undesirable about themselves. TGW interviewed several women that have had cosmetic procedures done. Most of the women stated that they would definitely have another procedure done when the time calls for it & quite a few of the women had already had multiple procedures or tweaks performed.
Janice 34, a social worker, had a breast augmentation & has since then has had her breast redone twice because she wanted increase her cup size. She always hated that she was considered flat chested while her three sister all had larger breast. She was often teased by her sisters about her small bosoms & believes that is what caused her to have insecurities about her breast. “I feel more confident since I’ve had my surgeries & I’m no longer ashamed to take my shirt off at the beach,” says Janice. She has no regrets about having her breast augmentation and states she would do it all over again. She did admit that the healing process was intense but still feels it was worth it.
Allison 43, a receptionist , has had liposuction and a 10 years later buttocks injections which she knew was illegal (not recommended) but had the injections done anyway. She admits after the liposuction she did gain the weight back however it came back to other areas of her body. The surgery set her back over $14,000.00. Years later Allison decided to get buttocks injections because she had given birth to her second child & her bottom had lost it’s firmness. “Everything just fell when I had my second child. I had her when I was a little older & my baby took toll on my body,” says Allison. Since the buttock injections she has gone back a total of three times to get her rear end just right. When Allison was asked what exactly was she injected with to enhance her buttocks, she could not give a clear knowledgable answer. She did know that it was painful initially and she has nine puncture marks on her buttocks that she was not warned about beforehand. Allison also had to ride home in the back seat of the car on her stomach. She was told not to sit directly on her behind for 24 hours & had to sleep on her stomach. Allison said that she had discomfort for about two weeks and then she was pretty much back to normal. She is in love with her new posterior and states that her husband can’t keep his hands off of her new ass. She notes that her new bottom is supple and well-rounded. Allison has no regrets about her buttock injections and would do it all over again. She now wants to have her a breast mastopexy (a breast lift) to repair her sagging breast. Then Allison wants Labiaplasty to restore her labia that developed elongation and stretching due to childbirth. “Enhancements are sort of like tattoos you get addicted once you get one you want more & more,” says Allison.
Danielle, 36, a nurse, had gastric bypass and she hasn’t looked back ever since. Danielle admits that she had self esteem issues and she could not shake her weight problem. She was an emotional eater like many other women. Danielle was a victim of molestation. She never quite healed properly and therefore, would just eat when she felt sad, angry or stressed. She states she had finally had enough and decided to take action to lose the weight. Danielle did everything that was required to get the surgery and although it was a lengthy process she remained committed. Today Danielle is a size 4 and she couldn’t be happier about her size seeing that she was a size 18. But, it was not an easy road to travel. She had to deal with and is still dealing with the fact that she still has unresolved issues that the surgery did not cure. Danielle’s gastric bypass surgery was no walk in the park either. The next day after her surgery Danielle had internal bleeding and she had to have an emergency surgery. “I was so scared and I was thinking what do I do. I could see the fear on my friend’s face,” says Danielle. In retrospect she regrets making her friends and family worry, but, she does not regret having the surgery. She admits that the side effects are sometimes challenging but she would rather have side effects than be obese.
TGW did speak with several women that stated that they would never go under the knife because they didn’t like a certain part of their bodies. Janelle Weber, 38, is an attorney that says she always thought she had a large nose but she inherited her nose from her family. She noted that when she looks in the mirror she see her father and this helps her identify with who she is in this world. Janelle believes that cosmetic surgery is for those that have self-esteem issues and battle self-hatred. “Women that get cosmetic surgery have deep rooted issues and that surgery is just a band aid to cover a small portion of a way bigger problem,” says Janelle. Quite a few of the other women that were interviewed replied with same response of, “God made me this way.”
Women tend to idolize celebrities and use these “perfect” avatars as measuring sticks as to how beauty is defined. Most of beautiful Hollywood as had cosmetic or plastic surgeries to enhance themselves. However, they make it so glamorous that the “common folk” pine to be gorgeous too. On the flip side of all this wonderfulness are possible risks & complications such as: scarring, blood clots, nerve damage, blood loss, fluid build up under the skin or even death. Opting for surgery can turn into a nightmare. So before we look at twisted Hollywood as great example to follow, we should be very aware of all the possible dark consequences.
Today, cosmetic surgery and certain types of plastic surgeries are done electively. They have become a sort of cure all for physical discomforts instead of for restorative issues such as birth defects, trauma, developmental abnormalities, etc. These surgeries are becoming so common that almost everyone knows someone that has had “work” done. It almost makes one wonder that if being able to “fix” whatever you find unpleasant about yourself is good for the psyche?
Beauty is definitely in the eye of the beholder.....
